Solution
InterTech conducted a site survey to determine the number and placement access points. The solution provides compatibility with both 802.11a (5Ghz, 54Mbps) and 802.11b (2.4Ghz, 11Mbps) wireless devices. The solution included the use of the following products:
- Intel PRO/Wireless 5000 LAN Dual Access Point (Part No. WDAP5000)
- Intel PRO/Wireless 5000 CardBus Adapter (Part No. WCB5000)
- ViewSonic ViewPad 1000 (Part No. ViewPad 1000)
- IBM ThinkPad A31p (Part No. 2652C5U)
- Ergotron Mobile Cart (Part No. 27-158-100)
Results
InterTech implemented an 802.11a/802.11b (5Ghz, 54Mpbs/2.4Ghz, 11Mpbs) wireless network allowing the use of tablet PCs (Viewsonic ViewPad) and mobile computer carts (Ergotron Mobile Cart with IBM Thinkpad) to allow medical staff access to patient information from any location on the floor (patient rooms, hallways and nurses stations). This configuration allowed real-time access to all of the hospitals network based systems.
